As summer winds down, we turn again to something familiar yet beautiful—our beloved Entrance Antiphon Hymns. These are musical settings of the Entrance Antiphons (or Introits) of the Mass, paired with hymn tunes you know and love. This makes it easy—and spiritually enriching—for you, the assembly, to lift your voices in song right from the beginning of the liturgy.

These hymns were arranged by myself and Mr. Greg Heislman, former Cathedral Music Director in Cleveland, and we’ve been blessed to see them sung in churches all over the world—from right here in our parish to as far away as Sri Lanka!

Did you know you can explore the whole collection online? Visit antiphonrenewal.com, where they’re available free for Catholic musicians everywhere.

Here’s a sneak peek of what we’re singing this month:

The Entrance Antiphon for August 17th (Psalm 84) is:

“Turn your eyes, O God, our shield; and look on the face of your anointed one; one day within your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.”

I’ve set it to the familiar hymn tune “Jerusalem, Our Happy Home”:

O turn thine eyes, O God, our shield;
And let us see thy face.
One day within thy courts excels
A thousand wand’ring days.

Give it a try at home—or better yet, sing it with us at Mass!

Youth Choir Season Begins!
